The P.S. Blog.

We Are Building a Specialty Coffee Brand Without a Cafe. Here Is Why.

Every great coffee brand in India built a beautiful cafe first. We did the opposite.

We built Pods: 50 to 200 square feet of precision-engineered grab-and-go counter, inside the building you are already in, serving specialty-grade coffee in under 90 seconds.

Not because we could not build a cafe. Because we made a different choice about what the product actually is.

What is a Pod?

A Pod is not a kiosk. A kiosk sells snacks at a railway station. A Pod is a self-contained specialty coffee operation. Same beans as a ₹300 latte. Same extraction. Same quality. Different building: yours, not ours.

No rent premium, no ambient lighting invoice, no Wi-Fi bill. The overhead disappears. The coffee stays.

A Pod is 50-200 square feet. It fits where a photocopier used to be. Or a forgotten storeroom. Or an unused corner in a corporate pantry. Service is grab-and-go: under 90 seconds from order to cup. No seating. No tables. No social performance. Just the coffee, fresh, ready, yours.

Why not a cafe?

A specialty cafe in a prime Ahmedabad location costs ₹25-50 lakhs to set up and ₹2-4 lakhs monthly in rent. That rent bill is the weight that crushes specialty coffee unit economics at scale in India.

A Pod costs a fraction to build. And it sits inside a building that is already paying rent for hundreds of people a day. The Pod does not pay for the real estate. It pays for the quality.

The math: a cafe's monthly rent is built into every cup. A Pod shares the building footprint already being used. The cafe format was built for an occasion. The Pod format is built for a habit.

The companies that proved this works.

This model is not theoretical. Luckin Coffee built 10,000+ locations in China using a similar philosophy: tech-first, grab-and-go, no premium seating. They became profitable in less than three years.

abCoffee, the closest parallel in India, has 97+ compact outlets across Mumbai and Delhi. They raised ₹61 crore in pre-Series B funding. Their revenue doubled year-over-year in FY26. Store-level EBITDA grew 193% in FY26.

These are not anomalies. They are proof points. The model works.

And here is the gap: Gujarat, with a large urban professional base across Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara, has no grab-and-go specialty coffee chain at meaningful scale. The model is proven. The market is identified. The supply is missing.

What technology makes possible.

The Pod works because technology solves the problem that a cafe's physical presence used to solve.

In a traditional cafe, you walk in, stand in a queue, order, wait. The queue is the only way to sequence customer demand. It is inefficient but visible.

In a Pod powered by the P.S. app, you pre-order. You choose your pick-up time. Coffee is made fresh to your arrival. The barista is not idle. They are serving a queue that does not exist in physical space because every order is already sequenced in the app.

90 seconds from pull to pickup. No wait. No queue. No time cost. The coffee tastes better because it is fresher. And the customer saves time because they never had to wait for it.

The Pod works because of three things in concert: low overhead, 100% Arabica quality, and technology that removes the queue.

What we are looking for.

We are pre-Pod. The website is live. Traction is building. But the real work is ahead.

We are looking for people who see what we see:

  • Investors who want exposure to a beverage brand with clear unit economics and a proven asset-light model.
  • Co-founders who want to build operations at scale in an asset-light QSR format.
  • Operators and baristas who care about craft and do not want quality compromised to hit the price point.

If you are building a portfolio and want a beverage brand with a clear thesis, strong unit economics, and a two-year window before competition arrives, we would like to talk.

P.S.: We are not the first to do this. We are the first to do it here. That is the whole brief.

Frequently asked questions.

What exactly is a Pod?

A Pod is a 50-200 sq ft specialty coffee counter embedded inside buildings such as co-working spaces, corporate offices, universities, and gyms. Same quality coffee as a ₹300 latte, served in under 90 seconds, at ₹89.

Why does P.S. Coffee skip the cafe model entirely?

Because the cafe model creates a price ceiling that forces specialty coffee to be an occasion, not a habit. The Pod model lets us serve the daily drinker affordably without compromising quality.

Is a Pod just a kiosk?

No. A kiosk is a small counter selling pre-made items. A Pod is a complete specialty coffee operation: espresso machine, grinder, trained barista, and 100% Arabica beans in a compact footprint.

How does the app remove the queue?

You pre-order and pick a time. By the time you arrive, your coffee is made fresh and ready. The barista works through a prioritized order list instead of a visible queue.

Has this model worked before?

Yes. Luckin Coffee in China and abCoffee in India have both shown that compact, tech-enabled coffee formats can scale.

Why start in Gujarat?

Ahmedabad, Surat, and Vadodara have a large urban professional base, but no grab-and-go specialty chain at meaningful scale. That is the white space.
